Walking tour of the McCormick & Baxter Superfund site and preliminary botany survey

Interested in volunteering with the Portland Botanical Gardens? Get started with a tour the McCormick & Baxter property, the potential home for the garden, and help develop a baseline botanical inventory for future research and learning.
DETAILS
Volunteers will learn about the site’s natural history, Superfund cleanup and habitat restoration efforts, and see firsthand the incredible setting for potential botanical gardens.
After a short orientation, volunteers will work in groups to collect images and observations of existing plants on the property (native and non-native), and touring the site at the same time. Collected data will contribute to a baseline inventory of plants and fungi on the property, which will be useful for future planning, research, and learning. We will also clean up litter as we go.
- Participants need to be prepared for the weather (rain or shine) and ready to walk in tall grass.
- Drinks and refreshments will be provided.
- Parking – use University of Portland Franz River Campus lots adjacent to the site (no fee).
- Event is free.
